We'll be returning to Golden Beach for the 4th time next month, having been there last year, Sept '01 and Sept '02 and was wondering (as I do every time !) whether to take a day out and catch the ferry across to Kavala.
Is there much there apart from the venetian castle or will I waste a day away from our favourite island ? Any advice greatly received - thanks
Hi,
We went over to Kavala last year and had a great day.
We went on a Saturday as this is market day. Morning was spent wandering round the market, fruit is especially cheap. Then we walked up to the aquaduct and then up to the castle, although there is not much to the castle itself it was only a couple of euros to enter and we had a nice relaxing drink. And then had a nice walk back down to the port through the small back streets.
We took the ferry rather than the dolphin to make it a longer day, if I remember correctly the crossing was an hour and it was nice and relaxing.
We are contemplating going over again this year when we are in Thassos.
it is really worth it!the market on saturday, the castle, go shopping and there is a smal kind of a train driving through kavala to show the sights...at least the best thing is to leave thassos and you know that you will be back the same day and don´t have to wait for a year - great feeling to arrive at thassos the second time
we went to kavala last year and we will do it again in july....
