Driving across Serbia, Macedonia

Beitrag von boris »

Just returned a few hours ago. Speaking of the leg Belgrade - Keramoti - Belgrade:

- There's roadworks in southern Serbia and in Macedonia. In a couple of places traffic is being stopped alternately.

- There was heavy traffic southbound, which (I expect) will slowly reverse in about 10 days or so. There are long lines on highway toll booths, and also on borders.

- The borders are (at the moment) not as bad as they have been in the past years, according to local reports).

- Police are looking for overtaking across full lines. I haven't seen a single radar, on both legs of the trip - but you want to keep the speeding to less than 30 km/h above the limit, 20 is better - you won't even be stopped (this is a collective experience, don;t hold me responsible! :-D).

- When arriving at Belgrade, DO NOT take the so-called ring-road. Go directly through the city. It is shorter and faster. Don't let the signs confuse you, just drive straight through - it's all highway.

Bon voyage!
